I've never laid down when Big Sis was awake. There have been days I've taken naps knowing she's in her bed, even if she's still awake. But a few weeks ago, I was at the end of my "energy rope" and decided it was okay for me to take a rest if she was choosing to stay awake. So, down I went, on the couch in our back room, still lending an ear to what was going on in my room. Big Sis sat contendly on my bed watching a movie and about 45 minutes later the movie ended and I got a tap on my shoulder. I invited her to either lay with me on the couch or watch another movie...I was sooooooo tired! She responded that she really wanted to play. I thought this was okay. As I rested for another while, I could hear her playing and singing so sweetly and I was in heaven. She came back to me and asked for something (I can't remember what now) but whatever she needed was located in my bathroom.Time went by and I finally was able to drag myself off the couch. I called her to me and praised her and thanked her for letting me rest and playing so well. She smiled, oh so proud, and responded...
"I even cut my hair!"
"WHAT? Where?"
She turned her head to show me a nice size chunk off the side of her hair. I had straightened her hair the day before, so the cut was all too obvious. I started to giggle and asked her where she put the hair, so I could see exactly how much damage there was. She responded, "In the toilet.". This is even funnier because she followed exactly what she has seen her whole life...Mommy trimming her hair and putting the remains in the toilet so as not to clog the drain in the sink. I have to admit I was a little proud! I went to the toilet to find only ONE strand of hair. I was fully expecting a mess, but she did a wonderful clean up job. Anyway, I informed Big Sis that we were probably going to have to cut her hair pretty short to correct the incident. Tears began to flow and Big Sis exclaimed...
"I don't want my hair cut, I want it long like Rapunzel!"
I then asked the only logical question I can think of...
"Then why did you cut your hair in the first place?"
There was no good answer and I giggled and calmed her tears by calling my good friend who immediately came over, took a look and said it was easy to layer in the place she had cut. In hind sight, this was actually a good thing because her hair was looking a little scraggly and the layers gave a little umph on the days she leaves it curly. My friend, Corey, who did the correcting, has REALLY long hair. She explained to Big Sis that the next time she wanted her hair cut she needed to come see her in the salon and they would do it there, but in order to have really long hair like her or Rapunzel, for that matter, it was very important that she not do any more trimming herself. Big Sis complied and all hair drama was averted...for now that is! I'm certain at the rate we are going, this is only the beginning!

Consider yourself lucky! Finley just cut some of Gwyn's hair while she was sleeping, in those wee small hours when it's so hard to wake all the way up :)
