I had Big Sis' Parent Teacher conference this afternoon. For those who don't know, she is a first year preschooler at Resurrection Lutheran and she LOVES school! She is in a small class and they are the best of friends and are in love with their teacher Mrs. Kroutil. I've always been nervous about her entrance into school for a few reasons...she's a big personality, she's a leader and she's busy. I've always viewed these things as potential negatives because I feel like others have seen them that way and honestly, they can be a lot to handle when in full swing. However, since she has been at school, I've asked her teacher how she's doing and she always laughs and says "She's WONDERFUL! I don't see any of the things you are concerned about." That has been so reassuring to me.
Today was an incredibly proud day for me! Big Sis has come leaps and bounds from the beginning of the year. It's not that there were things she had to improve, but from where she was to where she is is actually a little accelerated...as I've always thought...and her Grammy Kathy ALWAYS knew! Here is the gist of what her teacher said:
She knows all her colors, letters (except T), and numbers up to 10 (which is as far as they have gone). This means, when asked to recognize she can do so. She is a nurturer, something her teacher is most amazed by. She says it's something she's never seen in her 7 years of teaching. Big Sis is always helping the students that struggle, always keeping them in line and making sure everyone is happy and getting along (this is soooooooooo me!). She is a sponge. Mrs. Kroutil has encouraged us to start early reading with her this summer. She is ahead of the game in this area and thinks we can get her there shortly and she will be really ready for next year with reading and writing...at least the early skills. Mrs. Kroutil referred to Big Sis as a "Model Student"! Can you believe it??? Just what every parent wants to hear.
I've always said that I think she could test up a grade. I've felt this way since she was about Baby Girl's age. She's always ahead of the game on some level, even when it comes to the people she has hung out with. Mrs. Kroutil said the same thing today. It was a comment to the extent of not being surprised if she was tested up in Elementary school. I wanted to jump out of my skin! I thought maybe I was one of those parents who just thought their kid was super smart...but thanks to her Daddy's genes, it's true! Only time will tell, but for now, I'm encouraged by my wiggly, busy, beautiful little girl!
